As a new graduate joining an organisation and going into a sector of which you have very little experience and knowledge it can be both daunting and intimidating. So, when someone offers you the value of their hard earned wealth of experience, that of several other highly respected individuals in their fields and also a structured process to guide you on your journey, this is a fantastic opportunity to be afforded. Furthermore, when they can add to this a book for reference, webinars for interactive learning and face to face tuition for an opportunity to clarify and question findings this provides an environment to suit all learning styles. This is what the Toolkit and working alongside Peter has been providing me over the past few weeks and the content has been very relevant to my day-to-day role as well as assisting me on courses such as ECITB project controls that I have been completing. In my experience the Toolkit has been a welcome addition to my graduate program offering assistance in a well-structured format I have found both beneficial and interesting. I look forward to continuing my own personal development through utilising the “Toolkit” I now have at my disposal. Graeme Baird, Worley Construction Graduate
I completed the Cranston Engineering Project Engineers Toolkit over a 6 month period whilst working alongside Peter Cranston at in Aberdeen. I had predominantly worked in maintenance and operations offshore in the oil and gas for 20 + years with short term secondments supporting projects. When I commenced a full time role as project engineer managing small brownfield projects I found the Project Engineers Toolkit training invaluable. The course provides industry relevant tools and techniques backed up with over 30 years experiencing of managing a wide range of projects. The toolkits provide coaching and training in the technical side of project engineering and also the area of managing people. I was an inexperienced project engineer, however the training provided me with all the tools to work more effectively and tools and processes which I can continue to use in project engineering or adapt should I ever return to an operational role. I certainly recommend the project engineers toolkit training. Alan Matheson, Production Team Lead/Deputy OIM
I spent one hour with Peter and the amount of expertise he was able to impart, helped me achieve some real clarity on how to proceed with my presentation preparation. What struck me most when I met Peter for the first time was his calm, friendly and confident demeanor. As I was giving my presentation for the first time, it was obvious he was in the present moment, listening and observing everything I was saying and doing. Feedback was directly linked to my current skill set and how to move forward with specific actions I could go and work on straight away. I would highly recommend Peter's coaching to anyone looking to improve their public speaking and presentation skills.Steven Cowan, Bank Manager
I found the Project Engineers Toolkit very worthwhile. This is a good mix of theory interspersed with real life application and easy to apply to my day to day working. The toolkit also spans a wide array of subjects within the overall ‘Project Engineering’ banner which proves a useful resource for any Project Engineer. James Halligan, BEng IEng MIET Project Engineer: Chrysaor Contract
Peter has been and continues to be a great support for me on my journey to become a better presenter and public speaker. His calm, confident manner and clear depth of experience in this field helps when I receive feedback from him about speeches I have given and has really helped me to improve. He recently assisted my planning and preparation for a large, circa 200 audience event I was speaking at by showing me techniques to break down the requirements of the presentation into manageable sections and work on each one to create a well-rounded talk. I firmly believe that the ability to speak well in front of people will assist me in my career and look forward to working with Peter in the future. Paul Allan, MEng, CEng, MICE Senior Subsea Project Engineer
The project engineering toolkit is a practical and considered guide which clearly outlines the principles of effective project engineering. With the industry facing a challenging period of structurally lower oil prices and future skills shortages, the project engineering toolkit is a step forward in developing engineering and technical talent for lean and agile project delivery. Peter has extensive knowledge and ability in the field of project engineering. Eur Ing Mark Davison CEng MIET CMgr MCMI Engineering Manager BP Chirag Conventional Gas Lift Project
I have known and worked with Peter Cranston over many years, and so was understandably excited about the prospect of training materials from Peter relating to our Project Engineering community. Peter is a class act. “The Project Engineers Toolkit” is everything that I had hoped it would be. It is a practical guide for those who are entering the field of Project Engineering for how they should operate in order to deliver success to their organization. The book creates rigor and structure in what can sometimes feel overwhelming for people as they enter this field in our industry. I have personally used this book as a reward for a “job well done” to our developing professionals in Worley, but have now come to see it as an essential part of the development of Project Engineers. Worley looks forward to further working with Peter as the material is developed further. Jim Lenton President, Worley Integrated Solutions Upstream/Midstream/LNG
A great read for both developing and experienced project engineers. It gives detail in all areas a project engineer is likely to experience. I particularly like the sections on time management and effective meetings. This is without doubt one of the critical areas in being a successful project engineer. The review of each project management and engineering disciplines is also a refreshing read, when you are about to work together on your project. William Steward, BEng MSc CEng MIMechE MSc MAPM
The PE toolkit offers the best of both worlds both academically and in practice. I used it daily in my role as a project engineer and it served as a great reference point in navigating the complex projects and scopes I managed during the course of the project life cycle. I have now transitioned into Procurement Supply Chain Management as a Contract Manager and still utilise the ethos behind the PE toolkit in structuring my teams and workload. Antonio Gonzalez, MSc APMP Supply Chain Contract Manager: BP
The "Project Engineer's Toolkit" provided me with a broad overview of each of the main topics and disciplines which a project engineer will typically be exposed to. In particular, I gained skills in the writing of Position Statements, which I have since adopted, adapted, and continue to use to great effect in my own scope management. Susan Macneil, MEng CEng MIET BA(Hons) PMQ Project Engineer : Finlaggan Project
The Project Engineering Toolkit is a concise and detailed resource. Peter is very knowledgeable with a wealth of experience, and I found his course to be extremely beneficial. Peter Byrne, BSc (Hons) PhD Project Engineer: Ineos FPS Contract
It was clear to me from the first time I met Peter that he has a vested interest in supporting the development of others. I met Peter via our mutual membership of Aberdeen Toastmasters Club. Peter is a very experienced speaker and gives very inspiring talks. As a Project Engineer in the Oil and Gas Industry I was lucky enough to get one to one tuition from Peter towards my Project Management chartership. Peter took the time to work through my strengths and weaknesses with me and provided me with structured feedback. This has really helped me identify the areas I need to focus on to progress as a project professional which I can now take away and work on.Pamela Lewis Seagull Project Engineer NS Subsea & Decomm Team
